Rotondo Knows Which Way the Wind is Blowing

Amidst the controversies and contaminations that dominated the November 6 meeting of Revere's City Council, many people likely missed a motion by Ward 4 Councillor George Rotondo that Revere adopt an ordinance to move Revere (if only slightly) in the direction of putting up wind farms. It is unfortunate that this topic was barely discussed, as it relates to critical issues faced by both Revere and America as a whole. A mere week ago, Councillor John Correggio's Public Safety Sub-Committee addressed concerns about lax security at the LNG yards in Lynn. (A mishap there could prove catastrophic for Revere.) And, the county at large is facing every increasing fuel prices, and a reliance on unfriendly and unstable regimes for needed fuel. While wind farms are not a panacea, Rotondo's motion was a step in the right direction. Wind farms are not known for being exceptionally combustible (as LNG and other fossil fuels can be). Nor are wind farms known for producing large amounts of hazardous materials, some of which permeate Revere's soil. Finally, wind based fuel can be harvested locally, and is not contingent on the caprice of our friends in the Gulf and other un-reliable regions. True, there are aesthetic draw-backs to wind-farms. But, is a bit more security not worth a less appealing sky-line?
